Plastic Tile Jointing Techniques for a Secure Roof

When installing plastic roofing materials, such as resin roof tiles and UPVC roofing sheets, it is crucial to ensure that the joints are properly overlapped to prevent water ingress and enhance the roof’s longevity. Here are essential techniques for effective jointing.

Firstly, make sure that the edges of the roofing sheets are clean and free from debris. This will help in achieving a tight seal. When overlapping the tiles or sheets, aim for a minimum overlap of 150mm. This creates a barrier against wind-driven rain, ensuring that water does not penetrate through the seams.

Secondly, when using corrugated plastic-coated roofing sheets, align the ribs of the sheets carefully. Each sheet should be placed so that the corrugated pattern directs water away from the joints. It’s advisable to use a roofing adhesive designed for plastics at the overlaps, which provides additional sealing and stability.

Lastly, secure the sheets and tiles with appropriate fasteners, ensuring they do not penetrate through the overlapping areas. This will help maintain the integrity of the joint. Regular inspections and maintenance are also recommended to catch any potential issues early, especially at the joints where wear and tear are most likely to occur. By following these guidelines, the performance and durability of your plastic roofing can be maximised.
